That geography has shaped a cable portfolio that is emphatically regional in character — dense with short, high-capacity links rather than long intercontinental systems.
Documented landing points include Katthammarsvik on the island of Gotland, Stavsnäs on the Swedish mainland, and Šventoji in Lithuania, illustrating connections that span the breadth of the Baltic rather than reaching far beyond it.

Twelve active submarine cable systems serve Sweden, a figure that places the country among the better-connected states in Northern Europe by raw system count. The roster includes BALTICA, BCS, BCS East-West Interlink, Botnia, EE-S1, Gotland-Ventspils, KATTEGAT-1, KATTEGAT-2, LV-SE 1, SFL, SFS-4, and SF-S5.
Several of these systems are clearly oriented toward specific bilateral or sub-regional routes. Gotland-Ventspils, for instance, links Gotland — Sweden's largest island and a strategically significant point in the Baltic — directly to Latvia. EE-S1, at 240 kilometres, is a compact system consistent with a cross-Baltic hop. BCS East-West Interlink, commissioned in 1997 and stretching 218 kilometres, represents one of the longer-established connections in the portfolio.
The KATTEGAT-1 and KATTEGAT-2 pair suggests redundant or complementary routing across the strait separating Sweden from Denmark, a corridor that carries traffic between Scandinavia and continental Europe. Duplication on that route is a reasonable precaution given its importance as a western gateway.
