The CS² Archive
Before it was an atlas, this domain was a cable. From 2018 to 2021, coralseacablesystem.com.au was the official project site of the Coral Sea Cable System (CS²) — the 4,700 km, 40 Tbps fibre-optic system connecting Sydney to Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) and Honiara (Solomon Islands), majority-funded by the Australian Government, built by Alcatel Submarine Networks and delivered by Vocus in December 2019.
The pages below are preserved from that site as published — the build diary written by the original project team as the cable was surveyed, manufactured, loaded and laid. They are a rare public record of how a submarine cable actually gets built, and we keep them online at their original addresses as a historical archive. Coral Sea Cables (this publication) is independent of the project and its operator; for the working cable, see coralseacablecompany.com.
