The country is served by a substantial number of active systems, with routes threading toward East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas.
Among the active cables, Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE-1) — ready for service in 2017 — connects Malaysia into a long-haul corridor reaching the Persian Gulf and on toward Europe, providing capacity on one of the world's busiest intercontinental paths. The Asia-America Gateway, stretching some 20,000 kilometres, extends Malaysian connectivity directly across the Pacific toward North America, a route that underpins traffic to a major internet hub. South Africa Far East (SAFE), at over 13,000 kilometres, opens a southern arc toward the African continent — a less commonly held route that adds meaningful geographic diversity to the cable mix.
Regional systems round out the picture. APC, BBG, BDM, BMP, BRCS, IOCOM, MT, and SJC collectively stitch Malaysia into the broader South-east and East Asian network, providing shorter-haul capacity to neighbouring markets and creating multiple parallel paths that reduce the risk of any single cable fault causing widespread disruption.
